Hello! This is the first critique I ever made on deviantART. So it's something special, and I hope it's useful to you! So let's start!
First something about the distribution of the stars:
I gave 5 stars for vison because the image is scanned clearly, there are no earaser marks left and it has a focus and it's balanced. (there is no big place left in white)
I gave 3 and a half points to originality, because kissing is a very popular topic. But I liked the glasses and their embrace very much!
I gave 3 and a half stars to technique, too. But 3.75 would be better, because I was drawing off one star because of the clothing and hair and a forth of a star because Becketts little finger is too short. Please notice, that the shading of this image is really great, but the outlines are sometimes not so good exspecially her arm and the haircut. But as I sad, your shading is very good!
I gave only three stars to impact -.- please don't kill me now, but I had to look twice before I saw Beckett in the picture. I love realistic drawings but his eyebrows and his face is a way to female. I think that is the weakest point of the painting, but none the less I like it very much, because it is 'moving', and good emotinal moving pictures are very rare.
I hope my English is understandable so far.
Now I want to add my personal opinion about this picture in general and in detail. (I'll try not to repeat anything I said before.)
My first expression, after I realized, that this is Beckett was: Who the hell is this girl? Well it's clearly up to you who appears next to him, but a another character from VtMB would have had more impact on the watchers. Maybe damsel or another lady of easy virtue like Janette or Velvet Velour. What I really liked the most were those glasses! I love those glasses of Beckett, because they fitting to him very well, and it's one of his main characteristics! I also liked the fact, that this is a pencil drawing without color or anything else, just pencil and paper. Hell, I love those drawings, because they remind me of black and white movies, and this is fitting very well to the vampire image and it makes a great dreamlike atmosphere.
So my final result is:
I'm leaving 15 out of 20 possible stars.
+++ some hearts (out of 1 to 12 hearts (12 is the best; at which every heart is standing for something I liked), well count it yourself!
I hope my critique is useful to you. Thank you very much, for your great painting! yours LilithNoEve
This is very cute, passionate, and emotional. I love how you shaded it all in with pencil, i really want to be able to do that, but im better with digital art. >___> The lady's arm seems to be a tad long, though..but it's not very major. I really enjoy the pose, it seems as if they are so intense, yet so passionate and relaxed..it reminds me of The Notebook, were you inspired from it? I would reccoment a BG to go alongside the picture, since you're really good at shading, im sure you would do it very well indeed.! well, good job! see ya
